When is the best time to take vitamin?
The best time to take vitamin
Vitamins are not or hardly produced by the human body by itself. Therefore, we get our vitamins mainly from our diet. However, there may be several reasons why you may not get enough vitamins from your diet. In that case, it may help to take extra vitamin supplements. A common question here is: when to take vitamins? Almost all vitamin supplements are best taken during or just after a meal. Kala Health is happy to tell you more about different vitamins and minerals, when it is best to take them and why.
Take fat-soluble vitamin
Vitamins A, D, E and K are so-called fat-soluble vitamins. You will find these mostly in fatty foods. These vitamins are stored in the tissues of your body after ingestion. Vitamins A, D, E and K are best taken during or after a meal, because they are more optimally absorbed in the body in combination with a small amount of fat. Here, it makes no difference whether you take these vitamins at breakfast, lunch or dinner. We recommend choosing one fixed meal for this so that you are less likely to forget to take it.
Taking water-soluble vitamins
Vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B8, B11 (folic acid), B12 and vitamin C are so-called water-soluble vitamins. You can find these vitamins in the moisture found in food, and these vitamins are good for your skin, among other things. These water-soluble vitamins, with the exception of B12, cannot be stored by your body as well as fat-soluble vitamins. An excess of these vitamins leaves the body through the urinary tract. The time for taking these vitamins for your skin is before or during meals. This is because this vitamin improves the absorption of iron from your diet. For example, a lot of iron is found in red meat.
Other supplements
You can take various supplements to supplement your diet, such as magnesium creatine, melatonin, protein, etc. For almost all supplements, feel free to take them together during or just after eating. In doubt? In almost all cases, the supplement label will indicate the best time to take it. Is the information not clear or are you in doubt for various other reasons? Then consult your doctor and take it safe.
