Why use Ester C vitamin instead of vitamin C?

WHY ESTER C VITAMIN?

Why use Ester C vitamin instead of vitamin C? As soon as vitamin C is absorbed by the body, it is broken down into metabolites (breakdown products). The most important metabolite is threonic acid. Threonic acid and the other metabolites are important in making vitamin C available to the body. In addition, threonic acid has the ability to mobilize previously stored vitamin C and to make it again available to the body. Ester C is produced by The Ester C Company in New York. Ester C consists of a calcium ascorbate (vitamin C) complex, natural vitamin C metabolites bound with calcium. The production process is patented under US Patent No. 4.822.816.

Research with human volunteers have brought to light the following advantages of Ester C Vitamin compared to ordinary vitamin C (ascorbic acid, either with or without calcium):

  • Ester C Vitamin is taken up twice as fast in the blood, and stays in the body twice as long compared to ordinary vitamin C.
  • After only several hours of taking Ester C Vitamin, the ascorbic acid concentration in human blood serum on average twice as high as when taking ordinary vitamin-C. This concentration stays high even after many hours (Figure 1).
  • After taking Ester C Vitamin the amount of oxalate excreted in the urine is four times lower than after taking ordinary vitamin C).
  • v The loss of ascorbate via urine after taking Ester C Vitamin is six times lower than after taking ordinary vitamin C.
  • The ascorbic acid concentration of white blood cells after taking Ester C Vitamin averages twice that following taking ordinary vitamin-C (Figure 2).
  • Ester C Vitamin is the only form of vitamin C that does not cause digestive problems, not even when using large amounts. Ascorbic acid may interfere with the basic environmental conditions of the intestinal system, which can cause irritations of the small intestine, may result in flatulation and diarrhea. pH-neutral calcium ascorbate can, when taken in sufficiently large amounts, cause digestive problems when the ascorbate reacts with stomach acid and causes gas formation.
  • Ester C Vitamin is the only form of vitamin C that does not affect tooth enamel. Experiments with human volunteers have shown that ordinary vitamin C starts attacking tooth enamel after only a few minutes. Especially for children the popular use of vitamin C in a chewable form is very detrimental for teeth and should be strongly discouraged (5).
  • Calcium ascorbate contain approximately 10% calcium by weight. When using large quantities of calcium ascorbate (>10 grams per day) it is possible to take too much calcium.  This can interfere with the activity of the para thyroid gland, which regulates the calcium metabolism in the body.

ESTER-C VITAMIN: THE THIRD GENERATION OF VITAMIN C

The name Ascorbic acid has a direct connection with the ability of vitamin C to prevent scurvy (A-scorbut is Latin for anti-scurvy). Vitamin C in the form of ascorbic acid has been available as a dietary supplement for over 50 years. The acidity of ascorbic acid has been known to cause stomach and digestive problems. A new form of vitamin C was introduced about 30 years ago in the form of calcium ascorbate. The pH-neutral dietary supplement, in which the ascorbic acid is chemically bound with calcium, does not have the disadvantages of the acid form.

Ester-C Vitamin can be seen as the third generation of vitamin C. It is a unique, patented form of vitamin C with many important advantages compared to the other vitamin C forms.

Conclusion: In comparison with ordinary vitamin C (ascorbic acid with or without calcium), Ester-C Vitamin is assimilated much better by the body, stays in the body for a longer time, and is used more efficiently by cells and connective tissues. Furthermore it does not cause digestive problems, does not affect tooth enamel, and does not result in excessive calcium uptake.
