Why we developed liposomal Ester-C
Scientists suspect that tens of millions of years ago, a spontaneous mutation occurred in the genetic material of our distant ancestors. As a result, they lost the ability to produce their own vitamin C. Since then, humans have been entirely dependent on food for their vitamin C supply. Almost all other animal species can produce vitamin C themselves. We cannot.
This makes vitamin C unique among vitamins. Your body needs it daily, cannot store it in large quantities, and must obtain it entirely from external sources. And although regular vitamin C (ascorbic acid) is a very good basic supplement, it is not bound to the carrier calcium. And because vitamin C is water-soluble, a portion leaves the body relatively quickly.
As product developers, we saw room for improvement on two fronts: the form of vitamin C and the way it is absorbed.
Two technologies, one formula
Our answer combines Ester-C®, a patented form of vitamin C, with real liposomal technology.
Ester-C® is calcium ascorbate with natural metabolites, including threonic acid. Unlike regular ascorbic acid, Ester-C® is pH-neutral. Research shows that this form is absorbed into the blood faster and remains in the body longer than standard vitamin C.
Liposomal encapsulation adds an extra dimension. By packaging the Ester-C® in microscopically small phospholipid spheres, we protect it during passage through the digestive tract. These liposomes are composed of phosphatidylcholine from sunflower, structurally similar to your own cell membranes.
The result: vitamin C that is absorbed quickly, remains present for longer, and is well tolerated.
A clean formula
Most liposomal supplements require an additional carrier to stabilise the liposomes, such as maltodextrin. In this formula, the Ester-C® powder itself serves as the carrier for the liquid liposomes. The active ingredient is simultaneously the carrier, resulting in a pure formula without unnecessary excipients.
What makes Ester-C® different from regular vitamin C?
Ester-C® is not simply another name for vitamin C. It is a patented form that was developed in the 1980s and has been extensively researched since. The main differences:

The metabolites in Ester-C®, including threonic acid, play a role in the uptake of vitamin C into the cells. Additionally, each capsule provides 43 mg of calcium as an extra benefit of the calcium ascorbate binding.
What do we mean by real liposomes?
The term “liposomal” has become popular in the supplement world. Unfortunately, this does not mean that every product that calls itself liposomal actually contains liposomes. Many products use cheap phospholipids that clump together instead of forming true liposomal structures. Others import ready-made powders from abroad without verification of actual liposome formation.
We produce our Liposomal Ester-C® in our own FSSC 22000-certified factory in the Netherlands. From raw material to finished product: everything under our own roof, under direct supervision of our quality team.

Every batch is extensively tested before leaving our factory:
- Free from heavy metals: lead (< 3.0 ppm), cadmium (< 1.0 ppm), mercury (< 0.1 ppm), arsenic (< 0.3 ppm)
- Microbiologically pure: total plate count < 100 cfu/g, yeasts and moulds < 100 cfu/g
- Free from pathogens: E. coli, Salmonella, S. aureus and P. aeruginosa absent
