Description
Vitamin E T8 MAX 400 IU: maximum strength, complete spectrum
You know that vitamin E is more than just alpha-tocopherol. You want all eight forms. And you want a high dose. The Vitamin E T8 MAX 400 IU/50 mg from Kala Health combines exactly that: the full T8 spectrum in one plant-based capsule, with the highest tocopherol dose in the entire T8 range.
✓ 60 or 180 capsules per pack ✓ Plant-based (HPMC) ✓ All 8 forms of vitamin E
But before we explain what makes this product special, it is important to clear up one common misconception: about what an IU value actually tells you.
What does an IU value really say? An honest story
In the world of vitamin E supplements, the IU value (International Units) is often used as a measure of quality. A higher IU seems stronger, but that picture is incorrect, and it is something Kala Health deliberately wants to explain to everyone who thinks seriously about supplement choices.
How are IU values calculated?
The IU value of vitamin E is based on the conversion value of alpha-tocopherol, the best-known and most common form of vitamin E. Synthetic alpha-tocopherol (the dl-form) has by definition the highest conversion factor to IU, but what does this mean in practice?
The IU paradox
With the cheapest raw material (synthetic dl-alpha-tocopherol) it is easy to produce a supplement of 1000 IU or more. The costs are low, production is simple, and the number on the packaging is impressive.
Tocotrienols (the most valuable and rare forms of vitamin E), obtained through complex and costly processes, barely contribute to the IU value. For these forms, international conversion factors have been established that have no or only a minor increasing effect on the claimable IU figure.
Conclusion: A supplement with a high IU value is not automatically better. It can even be the opposite: a high IU figure can be the result of a one-sided, cheap ingredient, while the most valuable forms are absent.
Why does Kala Health look beyond IU?
Kala Health bases its product philosophy on the science behind the complete vitamin E spectrum. And that science is pointing ever more emphatically to the importance of the tocotrienol isomers, the forms that are virtually absent from common supplements, and that at the same time contribute least to a high IU value.
It is precisely because we endorse the importance of all tocotrienol isomers that it gives us such great satisfaction to have been the first to develop a daily maintenance dose with all eight forms of vitamin E in one capsule. As a logical consequence of what the science shows.
What does this mean for the T8 MAX?
The T8 MAX delivers 400 IU, a respectable value that aligns with what many people know as “high dose”. But that IU figure is not the goal in itself here. It is a by-product of a formula that was composed first and foremost on the basis of what all eight forms of vitamin E can contribute.
The tocotrienols in the T8 MAX are costly and complex to produce. They contribute little to the IU figure on the packaging, but are genuinely a valuable part of the formula. That is precisely the trade-off that Kala Health makes and communicates deliberately.
And if you really want to select on IU?
If you consciously choose the highest possible IU value, then the Kala Health Ultra Tocopherol at 750 IU is the honest choice. This product delivers 520 mg of mixed tocopherols from natural sources (d-forms), and is fully transparent about what it is: a concentrated tocopherol supplement for those who want to dose high on alpha-tocopherol. No tocotrienols, no mixed promises: pure and clear.
What is Vitamin E?
Vitamin E is a fat-soluble vitamin that the body cannot produce itself and that must be obtained through food or supplements. It is not a single substance, but a collective term for eight related compounds, divided into two families:
- Tocopherols (alpha, beta, gamma, delta): the best-known forms, present in nuts, seeds and vegetable oils, and the basis for the IU calculation
- Tocotrienols (alpha, beta, gamma, delta): rarer in food, barely contributing to the IU value, but intensively researched for their unique structure and antioxidant properties
Most supplements contain exclusively alpha-tocopherol, the form that forms the basis for the Reference Intake and most easily yields a high IU value. Kala Health deliberately chooses the opposite: the full spectrum as the starting point.
Tocopherols vs. tocotrienols
Tocopherols have a saturated side chain and are the best-known forms. Tocotrienols have an unsaturated side chain, making them more mobile in cell membranes and able to penetrate deeper into cell structures. By taking both families together, you benefit from a synergistic, complete vitamin E complex as it also occurs in nature.

Structural difference between tocopherol (saturated side chain) and tocotrienol (unsaturated side chain with three double bonds).
What is Vitamin E good for?
Vitamin E is known as one of the most powerful antioxidants available to the body. The European Union has approved the following health claim for vitamin E:
Officially approved EU health claim: Vitamin E contributes to the protection of cells against oxidative stress.
In practice, this means that T8 MAX can do the following:
- Antioxidant: Vitamin E T8 MAX has an antioxidant effect and contributes to the protection of cells against oxidative stress.
- Free radical scavenger: Vitamin E T8 MAX contributes to scavenging free radicals in body cells.
- Cell protection: Vitamin E T8 MAX helps protect healthy body cells.
- UV and pollution: Vitamin E T8 MAX helps protect cells against oxidative stress caused by UV radiation and air pollution.
- Tissue protection: Vitamin E T8 MAX contributes to the protection of healthy cells and tissues.
Vitamin E T8 MAX: the formula
The T8 MAX is the most highly dosed variant in the T8 range, in which all eight forms of vitamin E are combined in one daily capsule. At 400 IU (265 mg-TE*) per capsule, the T8 MAX delivers more than twice the IU value of the T8 and T8 Vegan, while retaining the complete spectrum.
Composition per capsule
Tocopherols (total 320 mg):
- d-alpha-tocopherol (256 mg): highest concentration, contributes most to the IU value
- d-beta-tocopherol (2 mg)
- d-gamma-tocopherol (45 mg)
- d-delta-tocopherol (17 mg)
Tocotrienols (total 50 mg):
- d-alpha-tocotrienol (17 mg)
- d-beta-tocotrienol (2 mg)
- d-delta-tocotrienol (6 mg)
- d-gamma-tocotrienol (25 mg): most studied tocotrienol variant, contributes little to the IU value but is a valuable part of the formula
* TE = d-alpha-tocopherol equivalents. Vitamin E must be expressed in d-alpha-tocopherol equivalents: 1 mg alpha-tocopherol equals 1 mg-TE; 1 mg beta-tocopherol equals 0.5 mg-TE; 1 mg delta-tocopherol equals 0.1 mg-TE; 1 mg gamma-tocopherol equals 0.03 mg-TE.
All forms are exclusively natural d-forms, the biologically active form as it occurs in nature. Synthetic vitamin E (dl-form) consists of eight stereoisomers, of which only one is identical to the natural form. Kala Health uses exclusively the forms that the body optimally recognises and utilises.
Comparison: all Kala Health Vitamin E products
Kala Health has developed five vitamin E products, each with its own focus and target group. The table below shows where the T8 MAX sits in the range.

Full overview of all Kala Health vitamin E products: capsule type, tocopherol and tocotrienol content, molecular distillation and purity.
What stands out in the table:
- Ultra Tocopherol has the highest IU value (750 IU): but contains no tocotrienols. This is deliberate: it is a specialised product for those who exclusively seek a high tocopherol dose.
- Ultra Tocotrienol has the lowest IU value (125 IU): but contains 205 mg of tocotrienols. The low IU value is a direct consequence of the conversion system described earlier: tocotrienols contribute little to the IU value, but that does not make them less valuable.
- T8 MAX balances both: complete spectrum, respectable IU value, plant-based.
When should you choose the T8 MAX?
The T8 MAX is not the most suitable product for everyone. But for a specific group of people, it is exactly the right choice:
You want all 8 forms and a recognisably high dose
You understand that IU is not the only measure, but you also do not want to settle for 150 IU. The T8 MAX offers the best of both worlds: the complete spectrum and 400 IU (the dose traditionally regarded as high in the market).
You know the 400 IU dose as a reference point
Some people dose vitamin E based on IU, for example on the advice of a doctor or dietitian, or because they are used to 400 IU supplements. The T8 MAX aligns with that familiar dose, but adds the full vitamin E spectrum that is absent from a standard 400 IU alpha-tocopherol capsule.
You do not want to combine separate products
You could combine the T8 Vegan with an additional tocopherol supplement to achieve a higher IU value. But the T8 MAX offers this in one capsule. One capsule per day is sufficient, without the risk of double intake or uncontrolled combinations.
You consciously choose plant-based and pure
The T8 MAX uses a plant-based HPMC capsule, suitable for vegans, vegetarians, and anyone who chooses a capsule without animal ingredients. The raw materials are obtained through molecular distillation at high pressure and low temperature, preventing contamination during the production process.
Summary: T8 MAX is the right choice if…
You want all 8 forms of vitamin E (complete spectrum) and are looking for a high dose of 400 IU, you understand that the IU figure is not the only measure, you choose one capsule per day instead of combining separate products, and you consider plant-based and pure raw materials important.
When should you not choose the T8 MAX?
- You want maximum tocotrienols: Choose Ultra Tocotrienol (205 mg) or Annatto (pure gamma+delta). The T8 MAX has 50 mg of tocotrienols; good, but not the highest dose.
- You only want the highest possible IU: Then honestly choose the Ultra Tocopherol (750 IU). That is exactly what that product was developed for.
- You want the entry level of the T8 range: The T8 Vegan offers the same complete spectrum at a lower dose and lower price.
Where is Vitamin E naturally found?
Vitamin E occurs naturally in a wide variety of food sources. Tocopherols are most abundant in:
- Vegetable oils: sunflower oil, wheat germ oil, olive oil
- Nuts and seeds: almonds, sunflower seeds, hazelnuts
- Green leafy vegetables: spinach, kale, broccoli
- Oily fish and avocado
Tocotrienols are present in regular food in only small amounts. The richest sources are palm oil and rice bran oil, but a meaningful daily intake through diet is practically unachievable. You would need to consume around 100 grams of palm oil per day to obtain the amount of tocotrienols in one T8 MAX capsule.
How much Vitamin E per day?
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) uses the following reference values for vitamin E:
- Adequate intake (AI) for adults: 11-13 mg alpha-tocopherol per day
- Safe upper limit: 300 mg alpha-tocopherol per day
T8 MAX in perspective: 2208% RI
The T8 MAX delivers 265 mg-TE per capsule. That is 2208% of the EU Reference Intake. This sounds high, but falls well within the safe upper limit of 300 mg alpha-tocopherol.
More importantly: the RI is a minimum guideline for the general population, established on the basis of alpha-tocopherol alone. The T8 MAX delivers a broader spectrum than the one for which that RI was calculated. Choosing the T8 MAX is a conscious choice for more than the minimum standard.
The recommended dosage for Vitamin E T8 MAX is 1 capsule per day for adults. Take the capsule with a meal containing fats for optimal absorption of this fat-soluble vitamin.
Are you combining T8 MAX with other supplements containing vitamin E? Make sure that the total daily intake of alpha-tocopherol remains below the safe upper limit of 300 mg. If in doubt, consult a doctor or health professional.
