Vitamin E T8 Vegan: all 8 forms in one plant-based capsule

The complete vitamin E spectrum in one daily capsule. Without animal ingredients. Produced in our own factory in the Netherlands.

✓ Available in 60 and 180 capsules ✓ All 8 forms of vitamin E ✓ 100% plant-based

Want to benefit from the complete vitamin E spectrum, all eight forms that nature has to offer, in a capsule suitable for every lifestyle, including vegan? Then our Vitamin E T8 Vegan is the right choice. On this page we explain what makes this product so special, why the plant-based capsule can also be relevant for non-vegans, and how this product compares to the other vitamin E products in our extensive range.

What is vitamin E, and why was the standard story incomplete?

Most people know vitamin E as “that antioxidant in your skin cream.” And most supplements do little to challenge that idea: one capsule of alpha-tocopherol, a high number in IU, and done.

But vitamin E is not a single substance. It is a family of eight related compounds, divided into two groups: the tocopherols (alpha, beta, gamma, delta) and the tocotrienols (alpha, beta, gamma, delta). In nature, they always occur together. In most supplements, they do not.

Kala Health develops, produces and sells supplements from a single location in the Netherlands, and advises customers directly through its own therapists and nutrition specialists. That means the people who make this product are also the people who answer users’ questions. This combination yields insights that are rarely found in a purely commercial supply chain.

One of those insights: customers who had been taking alpha-tocopherol for years were asking about effects that alpha-tocopherol alone simply cannot fully deliver, because the other seven forms are missing. That was the impetus for the T8 line: a formula containing all eight forms together, in the ratios that nature also uses, derived through a production process without compromise on purity.

This page lays out openly how that works, what is in it, why it is dosed the way it is, and who it is the right choice for.

The power of the complete spectrum

Tocotrienols differ from tocopherols through their unsaturated side chain. This makes them more mobile in cell membranes, allowing them to penetrate cell structures more rapidly. By taking all eight forms together, you benefit from a complete vitamin E complex just as it occurs in nature.

The distinctive chemical structures of tocopherols and tocotrienols

Structural difference between tocopherol (saturated tail) and tocotrienol (unsaturated tail)

Which foods contain vitamin E?

Vitamin E is naturally present in a wide range of foods. Tocopherols are most abundant in:

  • Nuts and seeds: almonds, sunflower seeds, hazelnuts
  • Vegetable oils: sunflower oil, wheat germ oil, olive oil
  • Green leafy vegetables: spinach, kale, broccoli
  • Fatty fish: salmon, trout
  • Avocado

Tocotrienols are present only in small amounts in regular foods. The richest sources are palm oil and rice bran oil, but reaching a therapeutic dose through diet alone is not feasible in practice. To consume 50 mg of tocotrienols daily via palm oil, you would need to eat around 100 grams of palm oil per day. A targeted supplement is therefore a more practical approach to obtaining sufficient tocotrienols.

What is vitamin E good for?

Vitamin E is recognised as one of the most important antioxidants available to the body. The following health claims have been approved by European authorities:

  • Antioxidant: Vitamin E T8 Vegan is an antioxidant and contributes to the protection of cells against oxidative damage.
  • Free radical scavenger: Vitamin E T8 Vegan contributes to scavenging free radicals in body cells.
  • Cell protection: Vitamin E T8 Vegan helps protect healthy body cells.
  • Protection of cells and tissues: Vitamin E T8 Vegan serves to protect healthy cells and tissues.
  • Protection against UV radiation: Vitamin E T8 Vegan helps protect cells against oxidative damage caused by UV radiation.
  • Protection against air pollution: Vitamin E T8 Vegan helps protect cells against oxidative damage caused by air pollution.
  • Cell defence system: Vitamin E T8 Vegan supports the natural defence system of body cells.

Vitamin E T8 Vegan: the complete formula in a plant-based capsule

Vitamin E T8 Vegan is the vegan variant of Kala Health Vitamin E T8 Complete. The composition is identical: all four tocopherols and all four tocotrienols in one daily capsule. The only, but crucial, difference lies in the capsule itself.

Vitamin E T8 Complete uses a softgel capsule made from bovine gelatine, which is not suitable for vegetarians or vegans. Vitamin E T8 Vegan uses an HPMC capsule: hydroxypropylmethylcellulose, derived from plant-based cellulose (pine wood). Fully plant-based, no animal ingredients.

Composition per capsule

The 4 tocopherols (saturated side chain, the most well-known forms of vitamin E):

  • d-alpha-tocopherol (90 mg): the most well-known form, basis for the Reference Intake
  • d-beta-tocopherol (2 mg): a rare form, found mainly in grains
  • d-gamma-tocopherol (60 mg): second most common form in the Western diet
  • d-delta-tocopherol (23 mg): present in soybean oil and sesame seeds

The 4 tocotrienols (unsaturated side chain, more mobile in cell membranes):

  • d-alpha-tocotrienol (19 mg): potent antioxidant with unique properties
  • d-beta-tocotrienol (1 mg): rare form
  • d-gamma-tocotrienol (7 mg): most extensively researched tocotrienol variant
  • d-delta-tocotrienol (23 mg): strongly present in palm oil and annatto

Total per capsule: 175 mg mixed tocopherols + 50 mg mixed tocotrienols = 100 mg-TE (150 IU) vitamin E value.

Exclusively natural forms

Natural vitamin E is identified by the prefix ‘d-‘ (such as d-alpha-tocopherol). Synthetic vitamin E is labelled ‘dl-‘. Natural vitamin E is better recognised by the body and approximately 250% more bioavailable than synthetic variants. Kala Health uses exclusively the biologically optimal d-forms.

Why choose a plant-based capsule, even if you are not vegan?

The plant-based HPMC capsule is not only relevant for vegans and vegetarians. There are good reasons why people without a vegan lifestyle also consciously choose a plant-based capsule:

  • Vegan or vegetarian: Bovine gelatine is an animal product; the HPMC capsule contains no animal components whatsoever.
  • Religious or cultural considerations: Halal and kosher lifestyles avoid gelatine capsules made from beef or pork. HPMC capsules are a suitable alternative.
  • Allergies and intolerances: Gelatine is an animal protein. People with sensitivity to animal proteins may prefer a fully plant-based capsule.
  • Sustainability considerations: HPMC capsules are fully plant-based and leave a smaller ecological footprint.
  • Stable release: HPMC capsules are stable at temperature fluctuations and less sensitive to moisture than gelatine capsules.

250% better absorption through molecular distillation

Vitamin E is fat-soluble, which makes it difficult for the body to absorb from the watery gastrointestinal tract. Kala Health uses a patented self-emulsifying delivery system that significantly improves absorption.

This system ensures that the vitamin E is automatically converted into small fat droplets as soon as it reaches the stomach. These micro-droplets are rapidly and efficiently absorbed by the intestinal wall. The result:

  • Up to 250% better absorption compared to standard vitamin E supplements
  • Both tocopherols and tocotrienols benefit from this mechanism
  • More effective at lower doses: more vitamin E reaches the cells
  • Less dependent on a fatty meal for optimal absorption

The distillation process of vitamin E oil from Kala Health

Molecular distillation at high pressure and low temperature: free from contaminants and without solvents

Quality and purity

Our vitamin E is extracted from vegetable oils through molecular distillation: at high pressure and low temperature, without the use of organic solvents. This leaves any contaminants behind and prevents the formation of toxic by-products. The following quality guarantees apply to the T8 Vegan:

  • PAH-free: Every batch is tested by an independent laboratory. We only accept batches in which no polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons have been detected.
  • No GEs or GPs: The distillation process prevents the formation of glycidyl fatty acid esters or chlorinated paraffins.
  • Exclusively natural d-forms: No synthetic dl-forms. All vitamin E forms are biologically identical to those found in nature.
  • Sustainable palm oil (RSPO-certified): The tocotrienols are sourced from certified sustainable palm oil.
  • Free from: gluten, yeast, sugar, starch, lactose, artificial colourings, flavourings and preservatives.

Our quality guarantee

In our experience, almost no supplier of vitamin E supplements checks for contaminants such as PAHs. We do. Sustainability and quality are of the utmost importance to us. All test reports and certificates are available for anyone who wishes to review them.

How much vitamin E per day?

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) sets the following reference values for vitamin E, expressed in alpha-tocopherol equivalents:

  • Men: at least 13 mg per day
  • Women: at least 11 mg per day
  • Safe upper limit for adults: 300 mg alpha-tocopherol per day

The recommended dosage for Vitamin E T8 Vegan is 1 capsule per day for adults. As vitamin E is fat-soluble, it is best taken with a meal that contains fats.

Dosage tip

Take Vitamin E T8 Vegan preferably with a meal containing healthy fats, such as nuts, avocado or olive oil. This optimises the absorption of all eight fat-soluble vitamin E forms.

About Kala Health

Kala Health was founded in 1997 by Paul Klein Breteler. Since then, he has been formulating his own supplements, treating clients and advising on nutrition and supplementation. That combination of developing, producing and advising has always been at the core of Kala Health. Today we work with a team of nutrition specialists, our own therapist and a pharmacist, all from our FSSC 22000-certified facility in the Netherlands.

All products are purchased, tested and produced by us. That gives us control over every step of the process, and allows us to be transparent about exactly what is in a capsule and how it was made. Anyone who wishes to review the test reports and certificates is welcome to do so.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. The capsules are made from HPMC, a plant-based material derived from pine wood. The product contains no animal ingredients and is fully suitable for vegans and vegetarians.

The composition is identical: both contain all eight forms of vitamin E in the same amounts. The only difference is the capsule. T8 Complete uses a softgel capsule made from bovine gelatine. T8 Vegan uses a plant-based HPMC capsule.

Most supplements contain only alpha-tocopherol. But vitamin E is a family of eight compounds that always occur together in nature. Kala Health developed the T8 line because customers were asking about effects that alpha-tocopherol alone cannot fully deliver. The T8 Vegan provides the complete spectrum, just as nature intended.

Preferably with a meal containing healthy fats, such as avocado, nuts or olive oil. Vitamin E is fat-soluble and is better absorbed when taken with fat. The self-emulsifying delivery system reduces dependence on a fatty meal, but taking it with food remains the recommended approach.

Molecular distillation is a purification process in which vitamin E is extracted from vegetable oils at high pressure and low temperature, without the use of organic solvents. This leaves behind contaminants such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), glycidyl fatty acid esters (GEs) and chlorinated paraffins (GPs). Most suppliers do not check for these. Kala Health has every batch tested by an independent laboratory.

Natural vitamin E is identified by the prefix 'd-', as in d-alpha-tocopherol. Synthetic variants are labelled 'dl-'. Natural vitamin E is better recognised by the body and approximately 250% more bioavailable than the synthetic variant. Kala Health uses exclusively the biologically optimal d-forms.

Vitamin E is a fat-soluble vitamin that gradually builds up in body tissue. We recommend using the product consistently for at least three months before making a personal assessment.
